Belt Splicer

This position primarily serves Binkelman Services Splice Crew.  This position requires incumbent to be proficient in all vulcanizing, mechanical splicing and Supscrew splicing of conveyor belts.  Incumbent will be proficient in removing and installing of conveyor belts prior to splicing.  Incumbent will be able perform all steps required to vulcanize splice a belt and to be able to train other members of the team.  This position requires a high level of customer service skills and requires incumbent to always have a positive and respectful attitude especially when on a job site to perform work.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Always adhere to all company and customers’ site safety rules
  • Adhere to all MSHA and OSHA requirements
  • Ensure all PPE is in good condition and always worn
  • Follow all health and safety regulations when operating equipment
  • Safely and proficiently operate a variety of tools including but not limited to drills, impacts, grinders……
  • Safely and proficiently operate mobile equipment such as telehandler, forklift, aerial lift……
  • Follow project instructions from Services Manager and Crew leader
  • Utilize hoisting and rigging equipment to prepare conveyor belts for install and splicing
  • Layout, prep, cement and cook vulcanized splices
  • Layout, prep and install various mechanical splices
  • Determine material needs and cut material prior to work to minimize waste
  • Unload tools, prepare job site and set up of equipment at job site
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely and efficient matter
  • Cleanup jobsite when work is complete
  • Ensure all equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly
  • Tension and track conveyor belt when install is complete
  • Troubleshoot conveyor issues especially with tracking and belt quality issues
  • In the absence of crew leader, assume the role as crew leader while on site
  • Communicate with customers on site in a professional manner

  • Must be able to work in a variety of environments such as heat, cold, snow, wind, rain…
  • Incumbent will at times be exposed to noisy, dusty, dirty, muddy environments
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as needed. Some holiday work required
  • Ability to travel and possibly be away from home for up to a week at a time

Qualifications:

  • High School degree or equivalent educational experience; vocational school or trade apprenticeship a plus
  • 1-3 years experience vulcanizing conveyor belts
  • 1-3 years hoisting and rigging experience
  • Some mobile equipment experience preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Incumbent will be required to attend Continental Splice School and any other training Binkelman sees fit.
